For a variety of reasons I would like to give credit to the following: Stephen Dalton, Chris Packham and others whose natural history photographs have given me much enjoyment. In the process they have shown me what it is possible to achieve, and have given me something to aspire to. In particular I recommend Stephen's book Caught in Motion and Chris' book Wild Shots (and the TV series that went with it). The late Ansel Adams for producing the spectacular black-and-white landscapes of the American South West that have pride of place on several of my walls. His images introduced me to the beauty of a different scale of nature and he remains my favourite photographer - which is an interesting admission from someone who specialises in colour close-ups of insects. Nigel Venters for introducing me to the possibilities of breeding butterflies and moths, and for showing me that it is possible to photograph pristine newly-emerged specimens rather than the somewhat tatty individuals that are usually found in the wild. The many members of Ordnance Survey Photographic Society, past and present, who have encouraged me and helped me to improve and enjoy my photography The lecturers and judges who have, while visiting our club over the years, provided me with much food for thought and constructive criticism Martin Buckley for his hard work producing the OSPS web site, and in the process finally persuading me to fulfil my own long-standing ambition to do the same (my motto is usually: never do today what you can put off until tomorrow) The best book on British Butterflies that I have found, The Butterflies of Britain and Ireland, by Jeremy Thomas and Richard Lewington A very useful reference series, The Readers Digest Nature Lovers Library The Butterfly Website for selecting this site to receive their Best Nature Site Award. A nice surprise, guys. In their words: "These awards are given to those websites which we feel are well designed, safe for children, and are significant contributors to the appreciation of nature and ecology on the World Wide Web." The many friendly and helpful people I have met through my work for the International Butterfly Breeders Association. Truly the Internet is making the world a smaller place. |
